Hillside Normandy   This was my first successful attempt to overcome what I saw as the problem of the difference between the English and Normandy landscapes. Too many of my earlier Normandy paintings, now consigned to the bon fire, were English in everything other than title. Here, through a radical alteration of the way I organized the two dimensional space and a subtle difference in the mixing of colours, the painting took on the character of Normandy.
